Local Tournaments For those of you who enjoy competition other than the Saturday morning Nassau, there are a number of ways to satisfy your urge to compete. The new tournament circuit in South Orange County this year is the American Amateur Golf Tour. Self proclaimed as "A Golf Tour for the Rest of Us" this organization offers 12 tournaments with A, B, C, and D flights at some great So Cal courses and a chance to participate in three post season events...one of which is in Ireland! The current flight divisions are based upon performance in at least two AAGT events but roughly breakout as follows: A Flight (Gold) - Golfers with indexes
of 5 and below. The $95 annual Tour Membership includes an AAGT Golf Shirt & Cap, the right to compete in all of the tour's events, and a certificate for a custom fitted lob wedge ($100 retail value). For those who join the tour in the middle of the season, the membership fee decreases by $5 every tournament until it reaches $50. As of today (6/17/02), I believe it is now $60 One of the things that sets this tour apart from the others is that they keep individual stats for their members including Driving Distance & Accuracy, Greens in Regulation, Putts, etc. If you enjoy tracking your playing performance and comparing it to others with similar abilities, this is a great group to be a part of. The tour has achieved excellent participation in its first year and promises to grow in the coming years.
